I started my career 3 days before my 18th birthday at Glenfield General Hospital (as it was) Leicestershire, before joining a very small but dedicated team at what was Granville Road Dental Surgery, Leicester (Now Portman). I was part of a 2 person in-house team which later became 3, offering a full service to 4 dental surgeons. While I was in their employment I was lucky enough to be able to complete my BTEC at Nottingham People’s College and then my BTEC professional development certificate too.
I mainly constructed all the orthodontic appliances and with my mentor and long standing friend Tony. We did the removable prosthetics together and he did the crown and bridge. We were quite the team even if I say so myself.
From there I joined Basingstoke NHS trust in their orthodontic department making appliances, learning osteotomy work and studying for my HNC at Lambeth College Tooley Street, London.
During my time at Basingstoke, I had found love in my now husband Philip. He lived in Kettering Northamptonshire and worked as a Maxillofacial Technician at Kettering General NHS Trust where he continues to work, so a team was formed.
In 2004 with Philip’s help I opened my laboratory in Kettering. The following year we got married.
We enjoy the usual things in life socialising, good food, drink, company and travelling. One of the many things we have done was to take a road trip on our motorbike to Germany to attend a training course on anti snoring devices at Scheu headquarters in Iserlohn Germany.
I personally like to sew house hold items such as curtains to clothes and bags but my main love is patchwork and quilting and in my spare time I like to pass on my skills by teaching.
I have also recently taken up upholstery too.
Apart from my husband at home we have cats, hens and a garden pond teeming with wildlife.
Admin & Accounts Manger
I joined Ideal Profile in September 2013. After a few years of getting to grips with how the business of a dental laboratory works, I passed AAT level 2 certificate in Accounting in April 2016.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, maintaining my garden, cycling for exercise as well as cooking and baking for my family and friends. I am also a volunteer for Girlguiding UK and as part of this run a local Rainbows Unit.
Employed by Kettering General NHS trust as lab manager but I help out in the lab when required to. I started my career in Surrey in 1984, gained advanced City and Guilds at Brooklands College Surrey before moving up to Kettering in 1995 and attending Manchester Metropolitan University to attain HNC in maxillofacial technology.
As well as GDC registration, I am also a member of The Orthodontic Technicians Association (OTA), The institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists (IMPT) and the Dental Technicians Association (DTA)
My main field of work within the hospital setting is construction of artificial eyes as well as 3D CAD / CAM design and printing of single and bi-maxillary osteotomy jaw wafers.
Away from work I love going to live music with Katie, travelling abroad to Europe and beyond, and also touring together on our Triumph Sprint GT.
